Online Node & Chapter Meeting, Thurs 5/7

Online Node & Chapter Meeting, Thurs 5/7

Thurs, May 7: 6:45pm – orientation to 350Mass; 7-8pm – MetroWest Node and Chapter meetings.

Yes, we CAN do something about climate change, TOGETHER!

We’re online, come as you are!

Zoom on in (see your emails for the link or email )

Join us for a Chase “Actionar”!
At our Thursday May 7 online Node meeting, we’ll take action together to urge major investment firms to vote against reappointing Lee Raymond (read about him here) to the board of JPMorgan Chase. To get ready, you may want to also read Bill McKibben’s New York Times op-ed here about the campaign, and the announcement from Scott Stringer, New York City Comptroller, here

We’ll also talk about legislative initiatives currently underway. Will a floor vote be forced soon on the 100% renewables bill? What we should be asking our state legislators for now? Who’s a good activist?  You are, yes you are!

In addition, we’ll cover the ballot initiative project. Language for two ballot questions is ready, we are choosing districts to target, and we have a social-distancing strategy for collecting signatures!  Let’s get going!

Next, we will switch to a meeting of the MetroWest Chapter of 350Mass Action to discuss ways to support Senator Markey’s campaign (or go here), and the status of House races & our endorsement process.

We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy in this challenging time. Shortly after our last Metrowest in-person meeting, 350Mass decided to avoid in-person gatherings until further notice, following the scientists’ advice about social distancing. Meanwhile, we aim to maintain and build our community of climate activists, and continue to make action plans. So our MetroWest Node and Chapter will meet via videoconference on April 2nd and 16th, and we hope you will join us!

350MassMetroWest.org, a local node of 350Mass statewide activist network, is helping to build the global movement to confront the climate crisis, right here in our own backyard, the MetroWest suburbs of Boston. Our monthly public meetings usually happen on the first Thursday, alternating between 2 locations in our region, where we gather to share, learn, and organize.

Our node meeting location normally alternates between:
– Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Rd. Wayland MA
– First Parish of Sudbury, 327 Concord Rd, Sudbury MA

Legislative Actions

Time critical actions:

Municipal Sustainability Checklist

We have created a municipal “sustainability checklist” that can help towns compare what they are doing with other towns, as well as get ideas and encourage collaboration. For residents, the checklist helps understand what towns are doing and not doing, as well as set priorities for local advocacy. For organizers, the checklist is an excellent tool to organize local groups around, and to build networks of people who care about sustainability.
