Take action to let Massachusetts pension systems divest from the fossil fuel industry

It is critical that we pull money out of the industry that’s driving the climate crisis, but because of a state regulatory ruling, local independent retirement systems in Massachusetts cannot divest from the fossil fuel industry. Somerville retirement officials discovered that it makes financial sense to divest, but when the city tried to pull some of its money out of fossil fuel companies, the state said it needed legislative approval to do so. MassDivest Coalition is pushing a bill that would allow independent retirement systems to divest, and it needs your help now to get that bill out of committee. Find out how a quick call or email can make all the difference: https://massdivest.org/act-now-help-us-pass-our-bill/

Time critical actions:

Municipal Sustainability Checklist

We have created a municipal “sustainability checklist” that can help towns compare what they are doing with other towns, as well as get ideas and encourage collaboration. For residents, the checklist helps understand what towns are doing and not doing, as well as set priorities for local advocacy. For organizers, the checklist is an excellent tool to organize local groups around, and to build networks of people who care about sustainability.
