Immediate Action Opportunity

Demand Real Climate Leadership from Our New Congress

On February 4-8, you can help bring the call for real climate leadership to your Congressperson’s doorstep!

A series of actions is planned in Massachusetts and across the country by a coalition of groups including 350.org, Friends of the Earth, Oil Change USA, Greenpeace, the Center for Biological Diversity, Food & Water Watch, and Climate Hawks Vote. Although 350Mass is not formally sponsoring this event, its goals are well aligned with those of 350Mass, so we wanted to make you aware of this opportunity to have an impact.

Each action is centered on delivering petitions calling for a federal Green New Deal to the home office of the Congressperson and Senator. Click here to reach the website where you can get details.

The petitions have already been collected and hosts have already volunteered to organize the events. All you need to do is show up at the appointed time and place and lend your voice and physical presence, to help show the growing support for the Green New Deal concept.

Organizers will share the scene on social media, along with similar events happening next week across the county. Many of those being visited in Massachusetts are already supporters – that’s great! They can use a strong turnout as support for their efforts in Congress.

Who, When & Where (see website for details):
Rep. Clark – Monday Feb. 4, Cambridge, 4:45 pm
Rep. Pressley – Tuesday Feb. 5 Boston, 9 am

About 350MassMetroWest.org
The MetroWest Node of 350 Massachusetts is a gathering to learn about the remedies for climate change and take action! Our public meetings are usually the first Thursday of the month, with an alternation between two locations in our region. All are encouraged to participate in the working groups for our initiatives, as well as the node’s planning group, which meets separately.

Municipal Sustainability Checklist

We have created a municipal “sustainability checklist” that can help towns compare what they are doing with other towns, as well as get ideas and encourage collaboration. For residents, the checklist helps understand what towns are doing and not doing, as well as set priorities for local advocacy. For organizers, the checklist is an excellent tool to organize local groups around, and to build networks of people who care about sustainability.
